Location & Itinerary

Claire at Wings Italy told us that this region isn't your picture-perfect Italy - it doesn’t attract perfectionists but this is where the beauty and uniqueness of the region lie. The various towns are truly Italian, roads are often lined with scraggly farmland and here there are 60 million olives trees dotted across the landscape, which is in deep contrast to the manicured hills of Tuscany!

Unpaved streets, its rural and as Claire says she has yet to see this elsewhere in Italy; it’s simple and has an unconditional warmth and atmosphere.

Gastronomical delights from famous Cheeses, Pasta Dishes, Risottos , designed to bring you closer to Italy’s food culture through busy markets, home cooking and dining only where the locals go!

You will also have the opportunity to prepare classic Italian dishes with cooking lessons and wine tasting.

On this 5-night , 6-day tour you will be hosted by Claire and Andrea @ Wings Italy, spending one day at Wings Italy food and wine workshop at the White Horse Barn, you will also be joined by other local cooks and wine experts, tasting a wide selection of local Oltrepo Pavese wines and of course accompanied by great Italian cuisine.

You will get to see Certosa di Pavia monastery and complex, enjoy a private cruise on the River Po, take a private tour of Torrevilla Vineyard - an iconic world recording breaking vineyard once hosting the largest process of vertical wine production (you have to see it to understand it). Visit towns, villages and markets experiencing real Northern Italy .

In addition, you will visit the neighbouring region of Piemonte, the city of Torino - famous for Fiat cars, chocolate and Barolo wine and here you will have the opportunity to visit one of the largest and oldest Museums of Egyptian artefacts in the world, also stop off to visit Superga.

Workshop - Food and Wine Day at The White Horse Barn will include a three course lunch, evening meal, Aperitivo, wine tasting, unlimited tea and coffee tea, interactive cooking lessons and, depending on the weather, if you bring a bathing costume a dip in the swimming pool.

NB - the River Po evening sunset cruise is dependent on the river conditions, recently droughts have caused river levels to be low. If this has to be cancelled an alternative event will be offered.

Host & Everything Else

In June, Italy’s Mediterranean climate sees the beginning of a warm, dry summer across the country. In the north of the country temperatures are usually slightly cooler than the south, but with sunshine across every region this is the perfect time of year to visit. There’s still a chance of rain showers in June, so make sure you pack wisely and bring a light jacket.
