This event is for those booked on the Spice National Weekend in Historic York.
See the work of the skilful stonemasons up close.
See the ancient craft skills used to maintain the 800-year-old cathedral. We'll go behind the scenes into the Masons’ Lodge and see the stonemasons at work in their workshop, before climbing the South Quire Aisle scaffolding (external) to explore the current conservation projects and see exclusive views of the city.
Location & Itinerary
This is an optional activity for those on our Spice National Weekend in Historic York.
Those going on the tour should not have any of the following medical conditions
- A heart condition
- Vertigo
- Asthma
- Are pregnant
- Restricted mobility
- Recently undergone surgery
- Any restrictive medical condition
Sensible footwear must be worn. No stiletto or other form of high heels
Large bags and back packs are not allowed
Loose items like mobiles/pens in pockets can cause hazards if they fall from heights,
please ensure loose objects are secured
Meet us at the Radisson Hotel at 12:45pm, or if you are already out in York, at the Mason's Lodge at the South East side of York Minster (near to Constantine's statue). The top right of square DD3 on the York Tourist Map by 12:55pm.
If you're doing the Knavesmire Walk before this, Jonathan will walk with you back to the hotel and then on to the start point at the end of the walk.
