Overview

Join us as we step behind the scenes of one of the busiest Tube stations in London!

Walk beneath Trafalgar Square and explore the closed-off Jubilee line platforms, passenger corridors and concourses that last saw passengers over 25 years ago.

This guided tour of secret parts of Charing Cross explores how disused parts of a modern station can come to surprising uses – from training staff and experimenting with new designs, to serving as filming locations for iconic TV and film productions.

What to expect on this tour

Exclusive access to closed-off areas

Walk down secret escalators and explore parts of the station that have been closed to the public since 1999, including the Jubilee line concourse, its two disused platforms, and passenger tunnels.

Discover the origins of the youngest Tube line

Learn the story of how “the Fleet line” (later known as the Jubilee line) came into being. Hear how its construction marked a major engineering milestone and discover why Charing Cross is no longer served by this line.

Explore famous filming locations

Learn how the disused parts of Charing Cross now double as other Underground stations in famous film and TV productions. Retrace the construction tunnels that James Bond raced through in Skyfall, follow Paddington’s path down disused escalators, and spot the famous trapdoor featured in Creep.

Learn about Tube innovations

Discover how Charing Cross is used to test new designs before they are rolled out across the network to improve passenger safety and accessibility. Discover how these disused parts still play a vital role in keeping the Tube running smoothly today.

Explore secret tunnels beneath the West End

Walk hidden tunnels beneath Trafalgar Square, stand under the Fourth Plinth and the National Gallery, and peer down on Northern line trains and platforms through a secret ventilation shaft
