Sunday Walk: Appleton Thorn + Grappenhall
Overview
Today’s walk sees us taking in lots of Wooded areas courtesy of the Woodland Trust and some bridlepaths and field paths. Although we are generally close to built up areas throughout the walk, you wouldn’t know it and with a pub at the start and mid-way through, we figured it seemed ideal! We will be taking in the lovely village of Grappenhall with its cobbled street leading through this affluent village past its 2 pubs and lovely church & stocks before skirting past the canal to continue our walk. Our start point the village of Appleton Thorn has a thorn tree reputedly introduced by Adam de Dutton a local knight and landowner who had returned from the crusades which we will visit before we start the walk.
