Sample Walking

The Balmoral Cairns - Explore the historical cairns erected by the Royal Family on the Balmoral Estate on this superb circuit, with great views over Deeside and Balmoral Castle itself. 

The Lion's Face and the Cromlins, Braemar - This excellent circuit through the pinewoods and fields east of Braemar offers some superb viewpoints

Clais Fhearnaig circuit - This circular walk starts by visiting the impressive Linn of Quoich, then heads up the hidden Glen Quoich before crossing the Clais Fhearnaig pass to descend into Glen Lui and the walk down the Glen and back along the road to the starting point.

Balmoral Castle - This glorious castle is the Scottish home of the British Royal Family. 

Braemar Castle - Explore 12 furnished rooms in this 17th century castle. Ghosts and villains, Jacobites and high fashion, the story begins in 1628 when the Earl of Mar built Mar Castle as his Highland hunting lodge.

Kindrochit Castle - Kindrochit Castle is a ruined 14th-century fortification located on the banks of the Clunie River in Braemar. 

Braemar also offers a wonderful setting to enjoy the start of autumn in the highlands.

Food & Meals

Plenty of good quality food is provided on these weekends away. As always with these hostel style weekends, everyone is expected to muck in to help make the weekend go smoothly from helping with the prep and cooking, washing up and making sure that the venue is left spick and span upon our departure.

An impressive former shooting lodge, Braemar Youth Hostel sits in extensive grounds in the heart of Cairngorms National Park and is a great base for exploring Royal Deeside.

The hostel boasts many traditional features and offers guests a range of shared dorm accommodation. None of the rooms are en-suite but ample shower and washroom facilities are available. There are 5 showers and 7 toilets available for guests.Other facilities include free WiFi, a bright comfortable lounge, a drying room, laundry free onsite parking and secure bike storage with the facility to charge e-bikes.

The lounge is bright and comfortable, with seating and a cosy gas fire.

All bedding is included and towels can be hired.
