Theatre: Of Mice and Men
Overview
Join a friendly group of Spicers to watch the latest production at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse - your host will meet you in the bar from 7pm.
Tonight we see Of Mice and Men irected by Joseph Meighan. John Steinbeck’s classic novel Of Mice and Men is more than 80 years old, but with themes of economic migration, racism, prejudice and exclusion it remains a parable for our times. A story of enduring friendship and hope.
“Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place...with us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us.”
George and Lennie are migrants with a dream; a dream of a better life, a place where they can belong, where Lennie feels safe and George can be somebody. But this is the Great Depression, not many dreams come true in a time where a few have plenty but most have nothing. When the friends take a job on Curly’s farm, tragedy unfolds leading to a heart-breaking decision.

By Public Transport: The Garrick is about 800m (a 10-minute stroll) from each of the following stations, served by both Northern trains and Manchester Metrolink trams: Altrincham Interchange and Navigation Road.
The Garrick is situated on Barrington Road, a major bus route and there are bus stops on both sides of the road very close to the theatre.
Parking at the Garrick: There is a reasonably-sized car park, which offers free parking including spaces reserved for disabled parking. The car park can quickly become full for the most popular performances – filling up sometimes half an hour before a show begins.
Alternatively, there are numerous opportunities for parking on residential side streets within a couple of minutes’ walking distance. Parking there can also sometimes be limited and again you are advised to come as early as possible if you want to park particularly close to the theatre.
Please park considerately, avoiding blocking any access for local residents – thank you.
Please Note:
- The bar is normally open at least 45 minutes before each performance, so their advice is: arrive early, park early, and relax in the cosy bar before the show!
- Your host will be in the bar area from 7pm until shortly before the show starts
