Wellingborough Road pub crawl in Northampton

“Doing the Welly Road” is a Northampton rite of passage once you are a grown up but some of our members may never have done this or not for several years.

With its full title of Wellingborough Road, the street has numerous bars, pubs and clubs for us to visit, so many that we are likely to be crawling by the end…

So join your hosts Julie and Jim for a free local event which will start at the Abington and end in the town centre just in case anyone from out of town wants to stay over and book a hotel.  

Buses run all along the Wellingborough Road for us to get home alternatively taxis home from the town centre.

We won’t be booking any tables as the plan is to stay at each venue for around 30 minutes to ensure we visit as many hostelries as possible.

Although this is a pub crawl there will be no pressure for anyone to keep up or drink alcohol if they don’t want to – it is just to get people together for a catch up and have some fun.

There is parking on the side roads but we will be moving on and you could end up some distance from your car by the end. 

There are also lots of fast food places if anyone wants to grab a bite to eat

Start point: The Abington Public House at 6.30pm onwards – planning to move on at 7.30

7.30 to 8pm – The Crown and Cushion

8pm to 8.30 – Sir Pickering Phipps

8.30 to 9pm – The Old House (at home)

From this point we have a choice of pubs depending on how people feel on the night and how busy they are:

We have the Gardeners Arms, The Artizan, The Jekyll and Hide, the Spread Eagle then finally The Fiddlers.   

As we near the town centre we have the Black Prince or the Lamplighter and the aim is to finish off at the Wig and Pen as this is near to a taxi rank. 

If this event is successful we might even do town centre and Bridge Street in a couple of months!
