Walking with Linda: 7 mile, Kings Cross to Kensington walk, Unusual Lunch Experience & Royal College
Overview
Join Linda for this 7 mile, Kings Cross to Kensington walk Unusual Lunch Experience & Royal College of Music Museum Visit.
Please meet by the big white 'bird cage' structure on the pavement beside Pancras Road which is the road that runs between St Pancras and Kings Cross railway stations at 0950, ready to depart at 1000.
We will walk alongside the Regent's Canal (with a 'facilities' stop at Camden in the Ice Wharf Wetherspoons!) before taking a detour to the top of Primrose Hill to admire the views over London from the vantage point.
On our decent, we will have another 'facilities break' before walking through Regent's Park and Queen Mary's Gardens.
We'll then walk on for a fabulous lunch experience (at your own expense) in the re-purposed, ex-St Mark's Church that now has three levels of food and drink takeaway outlets, a microbrewery, and a wine bar. The Grade I listed, St. Mark's Church was de-consecrated in l974 and is now the Mercato Metropolitano, multi-cuisine dining venue.
I plan for us to arrive at the Mercato in Mayfair at noon when they open, so we can be towards the front of the queue to have an early choice of tables to enjoy this unusual lunch break.
Will you choose regular pub favourites like burger & chips or fish & chips or go for Spanish cuisine, pizza, seafood, Pad Thai, Indian, steak house fayre, or sushi from the church vaults perhaps?
Whatever you choose, bring it to our group tables where we will dine together.
After lunch we'll walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens and to the Royal College of Music for a visit to see the wonderful, antique musical instruments they preserve in their Museum.
We will take time to independently explore the displays according to our personal preference.
Then we'll meet outside the museum at about 1600 when you might like to treat yourself to tea and cake in the museum's café or in the Hyde Park café, before catching our trains home from a choice of tube stations in the area.
Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.
Please dress for the weather on the day (and bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).
Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays.
The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
