Visit to Eel Pie Island and Pub
Overview
Along the Putney to Hampton Court stretch of the River Thames and beyond, little islands start popping up along the way. One of the larger ones, known as Eel Pie Island, became particularly famous in the 1960s for the blues gigs it hosted and later for its recording studio. It is now a privately owned island which is home to mixed dwellings, a nature reserve, 26 artists’ studios and a working boatyard. Twice a year, the island is open to the public and the studios open their doors and you can get a unique insight into a real working artist’s studio. You will be able to talk to the artists and can even purchase or commission new art works.
The Plan
We will meet at The Eel Pie Pub at 12pm for lunch and a drink before heading over to the island were we will have a private guided walking tour just for Spice and afterwards we can visit the museum.
