Overview

From the car park, our walk heads towards the centre of Wheelton Village and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The walk will then proceed along an attractive stretch of the canal through a series of numbered bridges with lush vegetation bordering the canal. Leaving the canal, we head for Withnell Fold and briefly visit the memorial garden there before heading across the A674 towards the village of Withnell; there are two reservoirs en route with good views of the nearby fells. After heading downhill through Withnell, the walk proceeds along a nature trail and old railway track towards the village of Brinscall which has an interesting lake.  The walk then continues towards Brinscall Hall Farm in open countryside with good views before arriving back at the Dressers Arms and car park.
