Behind the Scenes of the Police Dog Training Centre
Overview
This morning we have a fantastic opportunity for a group of Spicers to go behind the scenes of the Police Dog Training Centre at Balsall Common.
The team here offer facilities for dogs and handlers which are justifiably recognised as the most modern to be found anywhere in the UK.
We will have a presentation (and hopefully a demonstration too!) from the dog handlers to find out about the working life of these remarkable animals including how they are trained and how each dog specialises in their own field. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers as well as a tour around the site showing us all of the kennels which are here.
We will also get to meet some of the dogs and although it can’t be guaranteed, if there have been any puppies born close to our date, the staff have promised to introduce us to them!
Extras
Although our visit is free of charge, donations to the retired police dog fund are very welcome on the day. Or, if you have new spare dog beds or 'kongs', these would be very much appreciated by the dogs! (I have since googled Kongs and found that they are rubber toys that can hide treats and food and are available on Amazon and other retailers!)
The Police Dog Training Centre is located approximately 6 miles south east of Birmingham International Airport and the National Exhibition Centre, in the village of Balsall Common.

- Brilliant event, thoroughly enjoyed it.- amazingly informative throughout, oh and gorgeous puppies, oh and fabulous dogs. Jainn-Ann was a great coordinator. Karen and the other staff at the training centre, were so very generous with their time, and so informative throughout. Would definitely book again. Please pass on thanks to the staff, because they were all brilliant. Also kudos to spice organisers for arranging such a unique event, with unique insight.
- I really enjoyed this event, very informative, never felt rushed and in fact finished close to 1pm! Lovely to see the dogs in action and also to meet some puppies. The police officers were welcoming and Karen gave us an interesting presentation prior to going out to the kennels to meet the dogs.
