Walking with Linda: 6 mile Battersea Park to Wandsworth Common walk, Le Gothique Pub lunch & Wandswo
Overview
Join Linda on this 6 mile Battersea Park to Wandsworth Common walk, Le Gothique Pub lunch & Wandsworth Prison Museum Visit.
Please meet outside the front entrance of Battersea Park railway station by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure.
We'll walk through Battersea Park, along backstreets, through small parks, under the railway line and through Wandsworth Common to the historic Royal Victoria Patriotic Building which houses the Le Gothique pub where we will stop for lunch at about 12:30 (at your own expense).
We will have a break of about an hour and a half here so you have time to visit the plaque lines corridors to learn about the building's fascinating history as well as buying yourself lunch.
Or, if you prefer, you can bring a picnic to have sitting in the Wandsworth Common grounds.
After lunch we'll walk a short distance to the Wandsworth Prison Museum for a visit.
There is a World War II link between Wandsworth Prison and the Royal Victoria Patriotic Building and Stewart, who runs the museum, will share those stories with us. You will also have time to independently view the exhibits in the prison museum.
We'll then walk back through Wandsworth Common to Le Gothique and the Royal Victoria Patriotic Building for our afternoon cup of tea (or a bar drink) break and to revisit the historic building to help absorb Stewart's stories of wartime activities.
We will then walk across Wandsworth Common to catch our trains home from Wandsworth Common railway station or, of course, you can opt to go straight home from the station after the Prison Museum if you wish.
Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.
Please dress for the weather on the day (and you might like to bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).
Physical exercise and social interaction is said to regulate our nervous system and sharpen our focus. Movement stimulates the release of brain-devised neurotrophic factor (BDNF) 'brain fertiliser' apparently, so please join us for a day of collective social health and welfare! (Plus a pub lunch, tea, and cake which I believe is also good for us!).
Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays. The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
