Overview

Get ready for mind-blowing science, exploring the human BODY like never before.

Journey through a series of spectacular “body zones”, from the beating heart and firing neurons to the eyes, lungs and cardiovascular system. Along the way you’ll encounter:

  • a giant flaming heart
  • a light sculpture of firing neurons
  • a 10-ft steampunk olfactory scent gun

Using light, fire and cutting-edge special effects, BODY invites you to see, hear and feel the body in extraordinary new ways.

BODY is suitable for all ages - a joyful, thought-provoking encounter that will change the way you see what it means to be human. It should take around 40 minutes to walk around. There will be food trucks available, a hot chocolate stand and a few other delights.

Some installations include flashing lights, fire effects and sound. Visitors with sensory sensitivities may wish to bring ear defenders.

The trail is outdoors, please dress for the weather. Comfortable shoes and warm clothing recommended.

You are encouraged to take photos and videos, share your snaps with #BODYatHarwell

About The Light Project:

Harwell Campus is reaching a remarkable milestone - 80 years of being a campus dedicated to science and innovation. The Light Project is to bring this to life with a vibrant calendar of events designed to spark curiosity and wonder for all ages. From awe-inspiring art installations such as the Museum of the Moon by Luke Jerram, to film festivals, hands-on science activities, talks, and tours, there's something for everyone. I will be looking out for more events.

About Harwell Campus:

Harwell is a research and innovation supercampus, home to a unique array of cutting-edge scientific facilities, institutes, businesses, and expert teams working to advance knowledge and find solutions.

Founded in 1946 as a hub for pioneering technology, our Oxfordshire campus now hosts over 7,000 scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and technicians - all focused on solving complex problems. We design, build and use extraordinary scientific equipment, like particle accelerators that reveal the subatomic structure of materials, brighter-than-the-sun X-ray beams used to study everything from living cells to jet engines, revolutionary quantum computers and chambers to test the spaceworthiness of satellites.
