Join our costumed tour guide on a journey through 1,000 years of Oxford’s history; from Viking raids and the Norman conquest to the Castle’s role in Georgian and Victorian era justice.
Step back in time as you climb the Saxon St. George’s Tower, one of the oldest buildings in Oxford, descend deep underground into the atmospheric 900-year-old crypt, and explore the austere confines of the 18th-century Debtors’ Tower and Prison D-Wing. After your guided tour, you are free explore our historical exhibition at your own pace and discover more about the modern history of the site and its inmates.

Guided tours last approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour (not including time spent exploring the exhibition).
The experience includes several steps, low doorways, uneven surfaces, and some confined spaces. We recommend wearing comfortable footwear and checking our accessibility information before your visit.
