Lichfield Cathedral Tower Tour and Rooftop Access
Overview
This event is in the process of being postponed. If you were interested in booking, please add yourself to the waiting list and we will let you know once a new date has been arranged.
For our tour we will go up into the Tower Room and then the top of the tower. We will then go into the Northwest Tower, walkway above the Nave, and the North rooftop for a view of the Close. Our tour will be led by expert volunteer guide with a wealth of knowledge and expertise.
Not only will we get the best view of Lichfield and the surrounding areas in all directions from the top of the tower, but we will also be some of the first to experience the newly renovated Tower Room.
Work undertaken by Creative Core, has seen the Tower Room space transformed into an interactive exhibition featuring projections, lighting, tactile objects and soundscapes that allow visitors to explore the heritage and significance of Lichfield Cathedral.
Simon Warburton, Executive Director of Lichfield Cathedral said: “After months of careful restoration of the stone work and the installation of a new exciting visitor experience in the spire chamber, we are finally ready to welcome visitors back. There is no better way to see the city and beyond.”
Whilst we are at the Cathedral we can take time to visit the Fenland Black Oak Table exhibition in the main Cathedral if you wish
Fenland Black Oak Table
Come and view this spectacular 13-metre-long table made from a section of 5,000-year-old black oak. Learn more about the ancient black oak it is made from and the many centuries of history it has witnessed.
The ‘Table for the Nation’ will be in residency at Lichfield Cathedral for 1 year for all to see. It will be celebrated as a magnificent piece of craftsmanship and will provide a focal point for community events, hospitality, worship, and services across the year.
A fascinating exhibition accompanies the table providing insights into the project and a brilliant timeline of historical events across 5,000 years.
