Theatre: 1984
Overview
Join a friendly group of Spicers to watch the latest production at The Garrick Theatre in Stockport. Tonight we see with 1984 - George Orwell's classic dystopia
Winston Smith is in prison, found guilty of Thoughtcrimes against Big Brother. As part of his reconstruction, he must re-enact key moments from his past life, with the help of other thought criminals, so that everyone can learn from his mistakes; including his biggest mistake of all, falling in love with Julia.
George Orwell's classic dystopia 1984 is a still-resonant vision of the toll of living under Communism. Constructed almost entirely from dialogue taken from the original novel, this bold and powerful dramatisation restores the blazing heart of Orwell's work: a doomed love story, with ordinary people trapped within a structure of 'controlled insanity'.
The car park opens at around 6.30pm and closes at 10.45pm with the show finishing around 10pm

The Garrick Theatre is situated on Exchange Street, just off the main A6 in Stockport, opposite the Post Office Sorting Office. If you drive down Exchange Street, with the theatre on your right, immediately behind the theatre there is a large free car-park. It will state that it is ‘private’ as during the day it is used for office workers, but in the evening patrons to the Garrick Theatre are allowed to park there. If you get to the end of Exchange Street, which ends in a T junction with the bus station opposite, then you have gone too far and missed the car park. The bus and Railway stations are both near-by too.
