Overview

I am aiming to enter the trail at 6.30pm which gives us an hour to check out the trail before we head to Thirsty Bear for Pizza. I haven't purchased the tickets yet as I need to have a minimum of 6 for the event to go ahead, more would be wonderful.

We visited the trail several years ago, this time it has been extended into the Abbey Ruins, so should be even better.

Thirsty Bear has been chosen because of its proximity to the start of the Illuminate Reading Trail. They use a secret pizza dough recipe made from a two-part fermentation process. Aged for a minimum of 48 hours, it results in the most irresistibly delicious, crispy, super digestible and airy bread-like crust in the world. Toppings are equally superior: home-made tomato sauce, seasoned with 12 fresh herbs and spices and packed with flavour; 60-day aged mozzarella, harvested daily from an award-winning farm in Caserta, Italy, and the finest seasonal toppings.

Experience Reading's newest winter light trail and immerse yourself in a magical light trail around the grounds of Forbury Gardens & Abbey Ruins this winter. Follow a 30 - 50 minute route filled with beautiful light installations that transform the park & ruins into a glowing seasonal display. Walk through the grounds and take in the sights as you explore different areas designed to highlight the historic landscape and surroundings.

Towards the middle of the trail, you’ll find a food and drink court offering a variety of sweet treats, hot drinks, including mulled wine, hot chocolate, and soft drinks. At the start of the trail, you can enjoy marshmallow toasting and warming drinks to accompany your visit.
