Join Linda on this 6 or 8 mile, Pontoon Dock to Charlton walk, City Airport & Thames Barrier visits

Please meet on the eastbound platform of the DLR, Pontoon Dock railway station by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure.  

We will initially walk through the gardens to the north side of the River Thames where we'll stop to see the Thames Flood Barrier.  

We'll then walk alongside and across both ends of the London City Airport runway (with planes coming in to land and taking off over our heads!).  

Next, we will walk alongside the north side of the River Thames before catching the (free) Woolwich ferry to the south side of the river and on to Woolwich Arsenal for lunch (at your own expense) at about 12:45. I have booked tables for us to eat in the old munitions factory (now a Youngs pub!).

If a 6 mile walk, the planes viewing and lunch is enough you can go home from Woolwich Arsenal tube station after lunch.

After lunch we'll walk alongside the south side of the river to view the Thames Flood Barrier from the south side. We will stop here to allow anyone who wants to go into the Thames Barrier Information Centre and Museum to do so (it closes at 15:30). Otherwise, you can get a close up look at the barrier or have tea / coffee / cake and enjoy the gardens overlooking the Thames.

Finally, we'll continue alongside the Thames before turning inland to Charlton railway station to catch our trains home.

Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.

Please dress for the weather on the day (and bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).

Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays. The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
