At the end of 1945 Captain Wright, badly injured in the war, returns home. His wife has been eagerly awaiting his return, but the captain’s batman, Wethers, insists that the Captain has little contact with her or the rest of the household, apart from necessary visits by the doctor.
As the weeks pass, the captain is seen walking in the garden and mixing with the farm labourers, mostly old soldiers.
He comes down one evening for dinner with the family, to his wife’s great joy, but that evening turns to tragedy. There is a death – is it murder?
The play, in Two Acts, is presented in the form of a 1950s BBC radio play. Our audience is invited to bring an indoor picnic to enjoy during the performance.
During the Interval there will be a crime quiz for individuals or teams and a ‘Guess the Murderer’ competition. The first correct solution drawn out of the hat wins a prize.
