Overview

Join us for lunch at The Clink inside HMP Brixton.

The delicious, high-quality meals at The Clink Restaurant at HMP Brixton are cooked and served by the students in training who are working towards gaining their City & Guilds NVQs in Food & Beverage Service, Professional Cookery and Food Hygiene.

Situated in the old governor’s house dating back to 1819, the air-conditioned restaurant allows the students to learn, engage with the public and take their first steps towards a new life. All the leather upholstery and boardroom tables are made by people in prison at HMP Frankland and poetry is from Clink graduates. Conference, meeting room and private dining facilities are available.

The Clink Restaurant at HMP Brixton is frequently placed in the Top 10 restaurants in London on TripAdvisor, and in 2017 all of there restaurants held the Number 1 spot for six months. In 2023, Brixton was awarded a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, placing the restaurant in the top 10% worldwide.

Before You Go

Before you leave home

Please ensure you have your physical photo ID with you for visits to our restaurant at HMP Brixton. The only photo ID we accept is a driving licence, passport or Freedom Pass.

What to do on arrival

On arrival at the restaurants, please follow the signs along Jebb Avenue to the check-in centre.

There will be an opportunity for you and your guests to lock personal items away in the lockers, including mobile phones and any other banned items, as outlined above.

Your photo ID will be checked and taken from you in return for a prison pass.

You will be escorted to the main gate by a member of The Clink Restaurant team. The route from the reception area to the restaurant is outside so please wear appropriate clothing.

Dress Code

Please ensure you are dressed appropriately to enter the restaurant at HMP Brixton. The guidelines can be found here. Please get in touch with someone ahead of your visit if you have any specific questions or need further clarification. The final decision on admission to the restaurant lies with the prison.

Speaking with the students

Your meal will be cooked and served by students training towards gaining their accredited qualifications. Please feel free to ask them questions about their training and hopes for the future. By dining with us, you are giving them a valuable learning experience for which we and they are very grateful; thank you for your support.

Payment methods

You can pay by debit card, credit card or gift vouchers for your meal and any retail items. Payment will be taken inside the restaurant so please note that you will not be able to pay via Apple/Samsung Pay as mobile phones/smart watches are not allowed inside the prison. A discretionary 12.5% will be added in place of a service charge to help support the work of the charity.

Alcohol

Please note that our restaurant does not serve alcohol as it is a training environment and situated on prison grounds.

Tipping

Whilst you may be familiar with recognising good service by leaving a tip, the unique position of our restaurant means this is not possible when dining at The Clink. Instead, we will add a discretionary 12.5% to the total bill.
