Manchester Museum Visit with optional cafe lunch
Overview
Manchester Museum is one of the UK's largest university museums and is the European Museum of the Year for 2025. Home to around 4.5 million objects across a wide range of collections including: Egypt and Sudan, Archaeology, Earth Sciences, Entomology, Archery, Botany, Living Cuktures, Zoology, Numismatics. There are also some live amphibious creatures in the small Vivarium.
The original neo-Gothic building is over 130 years old, designed by renowned architect Alfred Waterhouse.
The museum is open from 10am, the Cafe is open from 8am on Saturdays.
We will meet inside the Cafe at 11.20am ready set off round the museum at 11.30. We can stay together as a group or you are welcome to go off on your own if there is something specific you would like to see.You can check out the museum floor map here if you want to plan your visit in advance. We will then reconvene in the Cafe at 12.45pm for cuppa, light lunch etc.

Location & Itinerary
We will meet inside the cafe at 11.20am. The front entrance to the Cafe is between Bridgeford Street and Coupland Street.
Public Transport: Approx 14- minute walk from Oxford Road station, 21- minute walk from Piccadilly, 17-minute walk from St Peter's Square Metrolink. Frequent bus services go past the Museum.
Driving: Please note that there are bus gates on parts of Oxford Road, open only to buses and black cabs
Parking: The nearest car park is UoM Car Park D, Booth Street West, access is via Higher Cambridge Street M15 6AR. This is available to the public, as well as staff and students. It is approx two-minute walk to the Museum, walking directly up Bridgeford Street from the car park exit, in the direction of Oxford Road. Cost at the time of advertising is £6.60 for up to 3 hours. The Aquatics Centre is the next closest car park, Booth Street East, M13 9SS. Cost at the time of advertising is £5.50 for up to 4 hours.
