Visit the Lavender Fields, Alton Hampshire
Overview
This looks like a little gem of a place, and this will be my first visit. I hope you can join me. The plan is to picnic in the designated field, then wander the beautiful lavender fields, and visit the shop and cafe. Feel free to bring a picnic blanket or chair with you in addition to your picnic.
Once a year they run a BBQ, but I only found out too late to make it an event. I will be looking out for it next summer. There is a photo competition for all you photography enthusiasts, so maybe you'll take a winning photo while we are here. Read below about the farm, and enjoy the lovely pictures, and I'll see you in Alton!

Lavender Fields is owned and run by Nick and Lyndsay Butler who took over from the founders, Tim and Anne in January 2018. Both Nick and Lyndsay have been involved in the business for quite some years and have amassed a great knowledge of lavender growing, harvesting and distillation. With a young family, there is now a fifth generation in the background, they can often be found in the shop or the field, 'helping' Mum and Dad.
The Butler family have been farming at Hartley Park since the early 1930’s - starting with Great-Grandpa, W.P. Butler. Since then, the Butler family have farmed a great variety at Hartley Park, including Potatoes, Cows, Sheep, Pigs - to name a few. Today, the farm is all arable, growing Wheat, Barley, Oats - basically anything that will go through a combine harvester.
We were the last commercial hop growers in Hampshire, finally giving it up in 2017.
Lavender was introduced to the farm in 1999 by Anne and Tim Butler. Nick has been involved with the business from the start; with Lyndsay joining the team in the Summer of 2005.
As the farming landscape is changing, our aim is to ensure the Butler family continue to farm at Hartley Park for generations to come. Our lavender enterprise helps, by providing much needed diversification to the farming business, to ensure the farm continues to survive and thrive.
Based on our own high quality essential lavender and rosemary oils, we have developed a range of light, delicately perfumed hand, body and home fragrance products. Our aim is to capture and bring to you the essence of our lavender field! All of our products are made in England.
