Overview

Join a friendly group of Spicers to watch the latest production at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse - your host will meet you in the bar from 7pm.

Tonight we see Vardy v Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial described by many as Scousetrap - the trial of the decade! Adapted by Liz Hennessey and directed by Dan Ellis

A story stranger than fiction that blurs the boundaries of tabloid scoop, court case and soap opera, The Wagatha Christie Trial explores privacy and celebrity in modern Britain.

On 9 October 2019, Coleen Rooney publicly accused Rebekah Vardy of selling stories about her to The Sun. The four words "It's.......... Rebekah Vardy's account" sent shockwaves across British and global press. Nobody could have expected the social media scandal to grow so large. On 10 May 2022, the "Wagatha Christie" trial commenced. Over seven days, the libel court case saw Vardy and Rooney remark on each other's lives, with much of it documented heavily in the press. Only a handful of people witnessed what happened behind the closed doors of this footballers’ wives drama and now you can too in this hilarious (and slightly tacky) court room comedy! You'll be on the edge of your seat as you relive the high-profile case, filled with drama, intrigue, and scandal.

Warning: This production contains some strong language and adult themes.

Getting There

By Public Transport: The Garrick is about 800m (a 10-minute stroll) from each of the following stations, served by both Northern trains and Manchester Metrolink trams: Altrincham Interchange and Navigation Road.

The Garrick is situated on Barrington Road, a major bus route and there are bus stops on both sides of the road very close to the theatre.

Parking at the Garrick: There is a reasonably-sized car park, which offers free parking including spaces reserved for disabled parking. The car park can quickly become full for the most popular performances – filling up sometimes half an hour before a show begins.

Alternatively, there are numerous opportunities for parking on residential side streets within a couple of minutes’ walking distance. Parking there can also sometimes be limited and again you are advised to come as early as possible if you want to park particularly close to the theatre.

Please park considerately, avoiding blocking any access for local residents – thank you.

The bar is normally open at least 45 minutes before each performance, so their advice is: arrive early, park early, and relax in the cosy bar before the show!
