Midweek Walking with Linda:6 mile, Farringdon to London Bridge walk, Red Cross Museum & Tate Modern.

Join Linda on this 6 mile, Farringdon to London Bridge walk, Red Cross Museum & Tate Modern.

Please meet on Cowcross pavement area just outside Farringdon railway station exit from the Thameslink and Elizabeth Line trains and the exit from the tube lines by 10:35 ready for a prompt 10:45 departure. We depart at 10:45 because this is a midweek walk and this departure time allows walkers to take advantage of off-peak train prices.

We will walk through Smithfields Central Meat Market to St Bartholomew the Great Church where we'll stop briefly to view Damien Hurst's memorial statue of one of Jesus' Apostles, St Bartholomew who was tortured to death by being skinned alive in Armenia. We'll also see the artwork Golgotha, depicting Jesus on the cross.

We will then walk down minor lanes, along alleyways and on high walkways, past sections of the old, City of London Roman Wall to the Red Cross Museum where we can view their displays depicting the history and work of the Red Cross.

Then we have another 30 minute walk before we stop at about 12:45 for lunch (at your own expense) underground in a church crypt dating from Norman times.

After lunch we'll visit the Norman Chapel and walk via back streets and gardens to the Tate Modern for a visit to admire the art on display.

Then we will walk alongside the River Thames and down back streets to visit the Red Cross Garden. 

Next, we'll return to the Thameside footpath and stop at Southwark Cathedral's café where you might like to end the day with a cup of tea and cake before we make our way to London Bridge railway station to catch our trains home.  

Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want. 

Please dress for the weather on the day (and bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).

Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays.
