Visit to Chelsea Physic Garden Christmas Fair

Situated in the heart of London, Chelsea Physic Garden has a unique living collection of around 5,000 different edible, useful, medicinal and historical plants. It might be winter, but Chelsea Physic Garden will be blooming with festive spirit at the annual Christmas Fair.

With over 100 stands selling gifts and produce from the finest British suppliers, you’ll discover unique presents you won’t find anywhere else. There will also be a present-wrapping masterclass available at the Fair with Jane Means, so your precious gift can be dressed up in the glorious packaging it deserves.

The Garden has the largest outdoor fruiting olive tree in Britain and the world’s most northerly outdoor grapefruit tree. From pomegranates to gingkos, mulberries to eucalyptus, there are over 100 different types of tree in the Garden, many of which are rare in Britain. The glasshouses hold a collection of tropical and sub-tropical species, complemented by a Victorian Cool Fernery. The Physic Garden is the oldest botanic garden in London and was founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries for the purpose of training apprentices in identifying plants. It subsequently became one of the most important centres of botany and plant exchange in the world. 

After our walk through the garden, we will have the option to have refreshments in the café and take some time to catch up with other Spice members (members own cost). Entrance to the garden is via Swan Walk SW3 The nearest tube station is Sloane Square (District and Circle lines). When leaving Sloane Square tube station, cross the road in front of you, turn left into Lower Sloane Street. At the traffic lights turn right into Royal Hospital Road and continue, past the National Army Museum on your left. Cross Tite Street and then turn left into Swan Walk – where the public entrance is for open days.
