Overview

Spend a weekend in the second most visited National Park in the UK! Staying in a country house hotel in stunning countryside you’ll be exploring the many cycle paths such as the Tissington and Manifold trails. Across gentle rolling dales, around lakes, and through pretty villages, we’ll discover the local gems and attractions.

Distance: 30 & 20 miles.

Terrain: Gentle rolling countryside

Path/Road: Cycle paths along disused railways and quiet country roads.

Physical difficulty: Moderate, 3 hours cycling each day at a medium pace. Everyone will be assisted but you must be competent on a bike.

You will be staying in comfortable rooms in a 3* Country House hotel in the heart of the White Peaks. A perfect place to unwind in a warm welcoming atmosphere.

Guided by the very experienced Graham Hills. These weekends are not Spice Exclusive so you will meet other people. There are usually around 12 people on each of the weekends, a mixture of Spice and non Spice members.

Location & Itinerary

Friday:

Check in to the hotel and head to the bar for meet, greet and socialise.

Saturday:

Feast on the cooked breakfast and pedal over to Carsington Water. There is a lakeside path through the wildlife reserve that affords fine views across the water. Continue to Middleton Top Countryside Centre, with it’s outdoor cafe, panoramic views and restored steam engine house. Pick up the High Peak trail, on the site of the former Cromford and High Peak railway, now part of the National Cycle Network. Heading back home through secluded villages we’ll stop in Parwich at the local community pub on the village green.

Returning to the hotel you can enjoy a soak in the bath before dinner.

Sunday:

To burn off today’s bacon and eggs it’s over to the Manifold valley to another disused railway path. Nice and flat, with a little diversion by foot up to see the views from Thor’s Cave. After stopping for snacks in the historic village of Hartington we’ll enjoy the easy cycling of the Tissington Trail, back through the gorgeous village of Tissington.

Arriving back at the hotel, invigorated and with a story to tell, it’s time to say goodbye until the next one..

Here at Spice your health, safety and wellbeing are of paramount importance. Whether travelling on holiday or attending Spice weekends away, in the UK or overseas - it is always advisable to have adequate travel insurance in case of emergency, cancellation, etc.

Travel insurance is an important aspect to booking a weekend or holiday, giving you protection against unforeseen circumstances that could otherwise spoil your trip. We also strongly encourage the need for a personal travel insurance policy that includes Covid 19 cover.

While we cannot recommend specific insurance policies as everyone’s requirements are personal to them, Spice have linked up with market leader Staysure Travel Insurance which you may like to take a look at.
