Walking with Linda: 3, 4 or 6 mile London Bridge to Kings Cross Walk, Novelty Auto Museum
Overview
Join Linda on this 3, 4 or 6 mile London Bridge to Kings Cross Walk, Novelty Auto Museum & Queer Museum Visits.
Please meet on the London Bridge railway station concourse (high street level), at the top of the escalators near platforms 10 to 12, by the seats outside Costa Coffee, by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure.
We will walk alongside the River Thames and over Tower Bridge to the Tower of London and numerous parts of surviving sections of the Roman London wall. We'll also take time to visit the raised area with great views of the River Thames and the Tower of London.
We will then return to the Thames and enjoy the walk along its side to the Victoria Embankment gardens. Through the gardens and Temple grounds, we will stop for a pub lunch at about 12:00 where I have booked us tables to have lunch (at your own expense) in the historic, Ye Olde Cock Tavern on Fleet Street. The Tavern dates from 1549 and was historically visited by Pepys, Dickens and Dr Johnson.
If a 3 mile walk, a visit to the Roman wall sights and a pub lunch is enough for you, you can go home from various central London tube stations after lunch.
Otherwise, after lunch we'll walk through a park and back streets for a visit to The Novelty Automation Museum to see a collection of these great old machines. If you wish, you can buy tokens to play on the machines or just amuse yourself watching others.
If a 4 mile walk, the Roman wall sights, a pub lunch and the Novelty Automation Museum visit is enough for you, you can go home from the nearby Holborn tube station.
Otherwise, we will next walk down back streets, through parks and alongside the Regents Canal to Kings Cross. In the 50th anniversary year of the first London Gay Pride march, we'll visit the Queer Museum in King's Cross before going to a café for a cup of tea before catching our trains home. Or you can opt to just go to the café before catching your train home from Kings Cross or St Pancras railway stations.
Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.
Please dress for the weather on the day (and bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).
Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays.
The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
