Overview

Regarded as one of the most picturesque ports in England, Whitby has it all- the 13th century Abbey, cobbled streets, Dracula connections, Whitby Sands, and the 199 Steps leading up to the old St. Mary’s Church. It is also perfectly located for easy access to the dramatic coastline, and the beautiful north Yorkshire moors.

Our hotel is located 20 minutes’ walk above Whitby and is the perfect location for our yoga and walking break. Yoga has a positive impact on the mind and the body, and when you combine the two you get a double dose of wellness and the feel-good factor.

On this yoga and walking break you can immerse yourself in an environment that awakens your senses and soothes your soul. You can switch off, allowing someone else to guide you and provide for you. This venue also provides nourishing and delicious food to feed your body and soul.

Walking

On one day we will head out to the coast and depending on the tides we will both head west to explore the fantastic coastline around Staithes, Runswick Bay and Sands End. Or we can head East to Ravenscar, where we can take in Robin Hood’s Bay, Bogle Hole and Whitby Abbey. Both walks traverse along dramatic towering sea cliffs, as the waves lap (or crash!) below us, and these are interspersed with delightful sandy bays and traditional fishing villages with narrow streets, quaint shops, inviting cafes and traditional Inns.

Both routes come back into the Whitby where we will have time to explore the historic town, complete with Whale Bones, Abbey, shops, pubs cafes and the obligatory fish and chip shops!

On the other day we can head inland. This area is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the TV series Heartbeat and some of the finest walking scenery in England. But wherever we choose for this day we’ll see the heather moors and the majestic oak woodlands frame the picturesque villages and valleys below. We can pick our way along valleys and footpaths where we can appreciate the sounds of the crashing waterfalls and chattering cataracts of the streams and rivers.

We will provide a guided walk on 3 days. The walks will offer flexibility, and it is possible to curtail some of the walks at particular places. All walks are weather dependent and own transport may be taken to the walk starts.  You will be supplied with a ‘what you must bring’ list - it is your responsibility to ensure you have these items.

A Typical Day at Whitby

A typical day will start at 7.30am with yoga before breakfast. We leave the house around 10.00am for our walk, returning at about 4.00pm. Evening yoga is usually at 5.15pm until 6.15pm, with dinner at 7.00 pm.
