Walking
This attractive landscape encapsulates the very essence of the dales with lovely villages, legendary dry-stone walls and limestone pavements.
The Mid-Wharf around Burnsall provides meadows full of blooming lime-loving flowers, limestone pavements, escarpments, scars, outcrops and gorges. This walk is full of variety as we begin beside the peaceful waters of the Wharf, there is time to visit picturesque villages like Skyreholme, and learn of the folklore of Trollers Gill and Hell hole.
On another day we may explore Pen y Ghent and the Ribble Way or head over to Settle to walk the escarpment that offers great views back across Settle and over to Giggleswick.
A walk around Malham dale takes in Goredale Scar, Malham Tarn and Cove. Beginning at the Cathedral of the Dales, our route follows the stream to Malham and the waterfall at Janet's Foss. A path then leads around to Goredale Scar, a wonderful waterfall enclosed by huge limestone cliffs. If it is not too wet, we will scramble up the force and onto the limestone pavements, clints and grikes! A short stroll over the moor brings us to the lovely Malham Tarn and into Malham cove before we return to the start. It’s now a lovely relaxing walk back through the valley and there may even be time for a tea shop!
We will provide a guided walk on 3 days. The walks will offer flexibility, and it is possible to curtail some of the walks at particular places. All walks are weather dependent and own transport may be taken to the walk starts. You will be supplied with a ‘what you must bring’ list - it is your responsibility to ensure you have these items.
A Typical Day at Malham
A typical day will start at 8.00am with yoga before breakfast. We leave the house around 10.00a.m for our walk, returning at about 4.00 p.m. Evening yoga is usually at 5.00p.m until 6.00p.m, with dinner at 7.00p.m.
