Overview

We’ve aspired to walk from this centre for years and years. Walter Scott certainly gained inspiration from this stunning landscape for his novel the Peveril of the Peak set in Dovedale and part of the Peak District National Park. The first of Britain’s National Parks, it covers 542 square miles taking in, to the north, the wild Dark Peak where Curlews cry across desolate peat bogs and the more pastoral White Peak to the southwest. In terms of the mighty impressive walking, with three days to go at we shall experience two of the most pleasing things the Peak District has to offer: Dales and Rivers. The enchanting dales of Dovedale and Mill Dale are sure to feature, and this means the pleasing River Dove will be on the menu too. Another walk which is sure to be a winner loops around the River Manifold and near the vicinity of the River Hamps, making it also a dish fit for a King! Add to this, over the course of the weekend, pretty hamlets and villages not to mention good pubs and cafes, plus so much more and all in great company.

Location & Itinerary

Yoga

We will offer six yoga sessions over the three-night break. There is no requirement to attend all sessions, you can do as many or as few as you wish. We usually have a pre breakfast wake up yoga session and a cool down post walk pre-dinner yoga session each day

This venue has some lovely lawn and meadow areas, and it is often possible to take our yoga classes outside at this venue, if weather permits!

All classes will be suitable for all abilities, with equipment and props provided.

The WalkWise Walking Programme:

Possible walks may include:

Ilam Hall, Hamps Valley & Mere Hill

From Ilam Park we cross the river and head up and over the steep Mere Hill for envious views over the impressive White Peak countryside. Reaching Beeston Tor at the confluence of the Manifold and Hamps we turn left and head south along the Manifold Way. Now we follow the wonderful Hamps Valley with its steep sides and fine wooded areas. In classic limestone country fashion, sometimes the river disappears for miles underground, only to reappear elsewhere. At Sparrowlee Bridge we head up over the hill to Rushley and back along the river to Ilam Hall for tea and cakes to end our walk.

Dovedale & Wetton from the house

Walking from the house today we make our way swiftly into spectacular Dovedale. Heading northwards we pass by fantastic rock formations such as the Twelve Apostles, Reynard’s Cave and the Tissington Spires. Midway along Dovedale itself, we ascend the side valley of Hall Dale and make our way over to the picturesque village of Wetton. Turning for home, we will have time to drink in the spectacular panorama of Manifold Dale before returning over field footpaths to our comfortable centre.

There is also a beautiful route from Hartington that includes Wolfcote and Biggin Dale. We often do this walk on the departure day as we can finish a little earlier in one of the cafes or pubs in Hartington Village.

WalkWise UK will provide a guided walk on each day, The walks may be up to 7-10 miles but there is some flexibility, and it is possible to curtail the walks at certain points. All walks are weather dependent and own transport may be taken to the start of the walk. You will be supplied with a ‘what you must bring’ list - it is your responsibility to ensure you have these items.
