Many of you have requested that we do a Yoga Wanders week in the wonderful St Ives in Cornwall. So, after a lot of negotiation we have managed to secure a very desirable week in the beautiful HF Chy Morvah Hotel. This hotel is positioned to allow both access to the town and to access some of the most wonderful coastal walks in the country. There are numerous bays, cliffs, headlands, fishing villages and welcoming seaside towns. Of course we can pop into St Ives to explore the many pubs, cafes and shops. Is this not some of the best coastal walking in the country; see you in St Ives!

Location & Itinerary

Yoga

We will offer 10 yoga sessions over the week’s holiday. There is no requirement to attend all sessions, you can do as many or as few as you wish. We usually have a pre-breakfast wake up yoga session and a cool down post walk pre-dinner yoga session each day.

This venue has lovely lawns and outdoor areas, and it is often possible to take our yoga classes outside at this venue, if weather permits!

All classes will be suitable for all abilities, with equipment and props provided.

The WalkWise Walking Programme

The whole of the coastline of Cornwall is simply stunning and we will do our very best to explore it and see it at its best. We won’t have a fixed programme as we believe the best way to enjoy walking in Cornwall is to check the weather and then head to the coast where it’s best! You can often have a sheltered and sunny day on one coast whilst elsewhere it isn’t! That said there are a few highlights that we really oughtn’t to miss.

St. Ives with its beautiful bays is a great place and made even better as it’s possible to walk out directly west, away from the tourists, and be immersed in a wonderful seascape. Below the deep blue Atlantic waves crash against the towering granite cliffs. Ahead lie forgotten bays, abandoned tin mines of Poldark fame, peaceful hamlets and lonely lighthouses on isolated headlands. To the east of St Ives, the landscape is totally different as the River Hayle peacefully meanders through the nature reserves to the broad sandy estuary. Further on, the southwest coastal path passes through the rolling sand dunes and you just have to sample the surfer’s café at Magow Rocks before heading around Godrevey Point to check out the seals on their pupping beaches

To those that know Cornwall, you will already be amazed by its beauty and it’s difficult to narrow down the wealth of walks to just a week, but I guess there are some places people will wish to visit. Lands End itself is a bit touristy, but the coastline is awesome. A favorite walk is from Sennen Cove which calls in or passes Lands End and continues around to Gwennap Head and Porth Curno. Here is the famous Minack Theatre, but for me it’s the silver sandy bay below and the rugged Logan Rock that make it special… oh and the sublime Cornish Pasties at Treen! From here it’s possible to follow the south coast further around the delightfully named Mousehole! Another place that people wish to visit is the fantastic St Michael’s Mount. Again, this can be incorporated into a lovely walk that also takes in the stunning Praa Sands with its lovely café and Cudden Point, not to mention too many coves to count. We can also head east and if necessary, can explore the Lizard to the Southeast or North to St Agnes and Perranporth.

Whatever we do, you will certainly get to explore one of the most scenic counties and some of the best coastlines in the world. WalkWise UK will provide a guided walk on each day, The walks may be up to 7-10 miles but there is some flexibility, and it is possible to curtail the walks at certain points.

All walks are weather dependent and own transport may be taken to the start of the walk. You will be supplied with a ‘what you must bring’ list - it is your responsibility to ensure you have these items.

Travel & Stay

St Ives Walking Week

There are 39 well-appointed guest rooms in three categories (Classic, Premium, and Superior), spread across the Chy Morvah building and Lanyons House – many with bay windows and sea views. It also has a main lounge overlooking St Ives Bay, a ballroom for evening activities, a licensed bar, and a sea-facing dining room for a wide range of dishes made with fresh and seasonal ingredients. Elsewhere, there’s a handy boot and drying room, a small terrace, manicured gardens, books and games room for your stay.

Meaning ‘house by the sea’, records show that Chy Morvah had already opened as a private hotel by 1949. The adjoining building, Lanyons, was once the home and studio of Peter Lanyon – the acclaimed St Ives-born painter renowned for landscapes that leaned heavily towards the abstract (part of the St Ives School, he was one of the most important artists to emerge in post-war Britain). This building later became a school known as St Christopher’s and there are still signs of the classrooms in the car park (you may notice the distinct ridge in the tarmac). It has been part of our HF Holidays line-up since 1986.

Around the Centre: Situated in beautiful St Ives it is of little surprise that there is no shortage of activities to keep you occupied during your visit. There are numerous National Trust properties, The Eden Project, Porthminster Beach, Tate St Ives Gallery, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trengwainton Gardens, Flambards, the Minack Theatre and St Michael’s Mount to name but a few So there's no chance you could be bored if you fancied a day off from walking!
