Overview
Once again we have managed to secure a weekend away at the very popular HF Selworthy and to make the most of it we are making it a fantastic 3 day walking weekend. Here the walking brings together the best of both worlds from Exmoor’s National Park, the truly spectacular walking on the South West coastal path with huge towering cliffs, wooded bays and spectacular sea-scapes and the Emoor with its heather clad moors, sweeping hills, wooded combes, vibrant yellow gorse, purple heather, wild Exmoor ponies and Red Deer. And to complete the package, our base for the weekend is an historic National Trust Country House, dating from 1860 and operated by HF Holidays a Walking venue. Needless to say it sits in its own peaceful grounds looking out towards Dunkery Beacon and it has been tastefully modernised to provide very comfortable accommodation, full of charm and character and most importantly they pride themselves on the quality of their food, and their packed lunches!

Location & Itinerary
On one day we must explore the South West Coastal Path that begins or ends here, depending which way you go around! The pathway ascends the steep cliffs before traversing across to Bossington Hill and Selworthy Beacon, all the while providing fine sea panoramas before descending through idyllic coastal village ports like Porlock Weir. Just inland, lying secluded, hidden in the valleys, is the picture postcard village of Selworthy, complete with manicured village greens, immaculate thatched cottages and quintessential Devon Cream teas.
By contrast, we will also visit the eastern end of the Exmoor National Park. Deeply wooded Combes complete with herds of Red Deer and the charismatic Exmoor Ponies, wend their way into the heart of the moors. Emerging from the valleys, the heather clad moors stretch onwards and upwards to the dizzy heights of Dunkery Beacon. Ancient rides and pathways criss-cross the area providing an endless choice of routes and variety that ensure that there are suitable routes to satisfy everyone.
There are also walks along to Lorna Doon Country or eastwards to the Stunning Dunster Castle. But we’ll sort out whats best when we see the weather
To allow you to choose a walk that suits you best, WalkWise UK will provide a minimum of two walks on each day, led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. On both days there will be a harder walk of 10-14 miles with up to 2000ft of ascent (please be realistic about your level of fitness and join the right walk for you, after all it should be about pleasure at the end of the day) , and a gentler walk of 6-9 miles with less ascent. All walks are weather dependent and own transport may be taken to the walk starts.

Travel & Stay
You’ll find HF Holnicote House set in the beautiful Exmoor National Park, near the quaint little town of Porlock. It really is a lovely country house, set in its own peaceful grounds, with extensive views up towards the Exmoor National Park. The location is so good that many of the walks can start from the front door of the centre! There is even an outdoor swimming pool in the garden. The Centre is set up for groups of walkers and has its own boot and drying room. But that’s not where they finish. Their menu features many locally sourced products and they tailor the food and especially their picnic lunches to walkers. The bedrooms, all with their individual layout and character as befits a historic building, are located in the main house and adjoining cottages. In your room you’ll find a TV with digital radio, hair dryer, towels and tea and coffee making facilities. The public rooms at Holnicote House retain the period charm of this Victorian house. There’s a comfortable lounge with access to the extensive gardens, a dining room and licensed bar which opens on an evening. WiFi is accessible in all public areas of the house
