Overview
The Norfolk Coast is always a popular weekend walking destination and this year we have managed to secure a weekend allocation at the Knights Hill Hotel and spa on the outskirts of Kings Lynn. True there are no real hills here, but its beauty and wildlife value are well known. Indeed, the North Norfolk coast is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty and includes numerous nature reserves of international importance, stunning villages, picturesque seaside towns, regal country estates, stunning beaches, huge expansive saltmarshes and dune complexes which are all networked through a complex maze of footpaths! We will be based in the easy to get to Knights Hill Hotel with pool and Spa, just 95 minutes from Kings Cross-by train! Here you’ll find friendly and professional staff and a hotel with blend of modern, stylish design and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. On one day we will head out along the coast visiting Sandringham Derisingham, Snettisham, Heacham and Hunstanton, we can also visit Holme next the Sea, Thornham and Titchwell. To add flexibility to the walks coastal buses run hourly parallel to our walking routes which creates the ability to tailor the walks to your individual desires. So do you fancy a walking weekend in Norfolk? Then for those maximising your weekend we will have a shorter departure day walk on the Monday!

Location & Itinerary
The WalkWise Walking Programme:
The North Norfolk Coast Paths is a National Long-Distance Trail which follows a mixture of low cliffs, sand dunes, beaches, sea and fresh water marshes. It is great for wildlife, not only birds, but flowers and even seals too. The beaches are huge and the sea goes out a very long way at low tide, which creates the stunning seascapes for which the area is famed. Dotted along the way are small picturesque harbours and inviting villages where we will pause, drink in the views and refreshments too. To make the walks even more interesting and add even more variety, we will occasionally divert inland to take in some of the beautiful parks, market towns and country estates.
On Saturday we aim to head over to Holkham Hall, where we will enjoy a lovely varied and historic walk stating by walking onto the beach at Holkham Bay. With the sea on our right and the extensive Holkham Nature reserve on our left we follow the coast path around to the lovely village of Burnham Overy Staithe. This delightful little fishing hamlet comes complete with a lovely pub and a a small honest café. If you have had enough at this point you can catch the coastal hopper back to the cars. The rest of us will walk on back through the stunning deer park and landscaped grounds of Holkham Hall. This has recently been featured on “Villages by the Sea” If you want to catch up its still on the iplayer.
On the Sunday, the plan is to enjoy the coastal areas a little closer to the hotel. We may pass through Sandringham before making our way down through Dersingham or Wolferton to the coast plains. From here the sea wall can be followed along to Snettisham, home to one of the most amazing sights in the British birding calander; the 100,000+ knots coming and going into roost! Anyway the walk will continue along the coast to Smettisham where there are two lovely pubs. Again, if you have had enough its possible to curtail the walk here and catch the bus back. Alternatively we can wander back via Wild Ken Hill.
For those of you who are lucky enough to be able to stay over to Monday, we may have a change of scene, we could explore more of the coast or we could head slightly inland to Downham Market. Here we may wander along the lofty the riverbanks looking for king fishers, swans and Cranes. We can then stroll through Downham Market itself and see the historic town before wandering back through the fields and villages to conclude the weekend . We will also likely finish a little earlier on the Monday to everyone to get away home in good time.
To allow you to choose a walk that suits you best, WalkWise UK will provide professional and knowledgeable guides for the Saturday and Sunday. We have planned the walks to be very flexible and on most days there will be places along the route where we can stop for coffee or refreshments and many of these places are also on the bus routes On both days there will be a harder walk of 10-12 miles and a gentler walk of 6-9 miles. However, as mentioned the programme is flexible and can be altered to suit your needs. All walks are weather dependent. own transport may be taken to the walk starts and the final choice of walks will be weather dependent.
