Walking with Linda : 8 mile, London Bridge to Canada Water walk & Peek Freans Biscuits Museum visit.
Overview
Join Linda on this 8 mile, London Bridge to Canada Water walk & Peek Freans Biscuits Museum visit.
Please meet on the London Bridge railway station concourse (high street level), at the top of the escalators near platforms 10 to 12, by the seats outside Costa Coffee, by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure.
We will walk alongside the River Thames and Rotherhithe places of interest. We'll walk past historic docklands and through an Ecology Park, up to the Stave Hill viewpoint.
Next, we'll return to the Thames and stop at about 12:30 for lunch in a riverside pub (at your own expense).
After lunch we have about a 30 minute walk to the Peek Freans Biscuits Museum where we will have a guided tour, tea and biscuits.
After the museum visit we will take a short walk to the nearby Southwark park café where you might like to treat yourself to an end of walk cup of tea and cake before taking the short walk to Canada Water railway and tube stations to make your way home.
Southwark Park is where Bobby Abel (1857-1936), one of Britain's finest cricketers first learned to play cricket.
Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.
Please dress for the weather on the day (and maybe bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).
Physical exercise and social interaction is said to regulate our nervous system and sharpen our focus. Movement stimulates the release of brain-devised neurotrophic factor (BDNF) 'brain fertiliser' apparently, so please join us for a day of collective social health and welfare! (Plus a pub lunch, tea, biscuits and cake!).
Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays. The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
