Walking with Linda: 6 or 8 mile Hampton Court circular walk, Deer Parks, & Historic Site Visit.
Overview
Join Linda for this 6 or 8 mile Hampton Court circular walk, Deer Parks, & Historic Site Visit.
Please meet outside the front entrance of Hampton Court railway station by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure.
We'll walk alongside the River Thames, through Hampton Court Park where we'll hopefully see the deer, through Bushy Park, again in search of the deer, and through spring flower woodlands before rejoining the River Thames.
We will stop at a pub where I have booked tables for us to have lunch at about 12:30 (at your own expense).
Or, if you prefer, you can bring a picnic to have sitting by the River Thames.
We will have a break of about an hour and a quarter here before returning to the River Thames by Garrick's Ait.
If a 6 mile walk and pub lunch is enough for you, you can go home from the nearby Hampton railway station.
After lunch, we'll cross the River Thames to the south side via the small ferry boat (PLEASE BRING A £1 COIN, CASH ONLY, TO PAY FOR THE FERRY).
We will have some dwell time to read the plaques explaining the historic events that have taken place on the site of Hurst Park.
Our afternoon walk will then take on a pretty, wooded route, past private islands on the Thames, to the East Moseley Rowing Club where we have been invited to stop and enjoy an afternoon cup of tea break on the club's balcony, overlooking the River and perhaps some rowers. The East Moseley Rowing Club is where the UK's para-olympic rowers are trained and the walls are adorned with photos of the successful athletes with their medals.
We'll then only have a short walk past the lock (and it's resident seal), back to Hampton Court railway station to catch our trains home.
Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.
Please dress for the weather on the day (and bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).
Physical exercise and social interaction is said to regulate our nervous system and sharpen our focus. Movement stimulates the release of brain-devised neurotrophic factor (BDNF) 'brain fertiliser' apparently, so please join us for a day of collective social health and welfare! (Plus a pub lunch, tea, and cake which I believe is also good for us!).
Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays. The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
