Overview

Join Linda on this 6 mile Richmond to Kew walk with Kew Palace and Gardens Visit.

Please meet in the booking hall by the front entrance of Richmond railway station by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure.

We'll walk out to and alongside the River Thames, via Richmond Green and the remains of Richmond Palace.

We will walk alongside both the south and north sides of the River Thames, between the river and Kew Gardens.

We'll then leave the riverside path to walk to our stop at 'The Tap on the Line' pub for lunch (at your own expense) at about 12:30.

It is a traditional pub, refurbished in 2013 to combine vintage charm with modern comfort.

Or, if you prefer, you can bring a picnic to have sitting on the station platforms or in it's garden.

We will have a break of about an hour and a half for lunch before our short afternoon walk via back streets to Kew gardens where we'll go in to see the Palace and it's gardens.

At the Palace we'll have a self-guided tour of the Palace and gardens. You might like to stay with me, break into a smaller group or explore on your own.

You can spend as long as you like in the garden (until it closes) and then make your own way across Kew Bridge to the railway station to go home or you can depart with me at 1700 to walk to the station to catch our trains home.

The walk is 6 miles plus whatever walking you for in Kew Palace and Gardens.

Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.

Please dress for the weather on the day (and you might like to bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).

Physical exercise and social interaction is said to regulate our nervous system and sharpen our focus. Movement stimulates the release of brain-devised neurotrophic factor (BDNF) 'brain fertiliser' apparently, so please join us for a day of collective social health and welfare! (Plus a pub lunch, tea, and cake which I believe is also good for us!).

Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays. The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
