Walking with Linda : 5 or 7 mile, Richmond to Kew Bridge walk & Gunnersbury Park Museum Visit
Overview
Join Linda on this 5 or 7 mile walk to Richmond to Kew Bridge walk & Gunnersbury Park Museum Visit.
Please meet inside Richmond Railway Station Booking Hall by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure.
The walk is flat and alongside both sides of the River Thames to Kew Bridge where we will stop for lunch at about 12:00 (at your own expense) at the One Over The Ait pub. Or, if you prefer, you can bring a picnic to have sitting on bench seats overlooking the River Thames.
If a 5 mile walk and lunch is enough for you, you can go home from the nearby Kew Bridge railway station.
After lunch we'll walk to and through Gunnersbury Park to the former Manor House which is now a museum.
Gunnersbury Park Museum opened in 1929 with a large and varied collection of around 50,000 museum and archive items. The diverse collections provide an insight into the heritage and culture of West London's past and present populations.
There are nine themed exhibitions spread over three floors including things like: the story of how the Estate has changed over the years since the 13th Century; the life of the Rothschilds and the staff who worked for them here; a fashion section including clothing from the 1600's; a collection of historic children's toys; and the Mansion's link to household names such as Hoover, Lucozade, Firestone and Brompton Bikes.
We will then walk through a different area of Gunnersbury Park to Kew Bridge railway station to catch our trains home. You might like to join those of us who like to treat ourselves to a pot of tea and cake in a café before we catch our trains home.
Or, after visiting the Gunnersbury Park museum, you might like to opt to travel home from the nearby, Acton Town tube station.
Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.
Please dress for the weather on the day (and you might like to bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).
Physical exercise and social interaction is said to regulate our nervous system and sharpen our focus. Movement stimulates the release of brain-devised neurotrophic factor (BDNF) 'brain fertiliser' apparently, so please join us for a day of collective social health and welfare! (Plus a pub lunch, tea, and cake which I believe is also good for us!).
Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays. The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
