Walking The Chilterns with Alan - Bourne End and Maidenhead circular walk
Overview
We will meet at Wakeman Road Car Park SL8 5SX to be ready to set off at 10.30. The car park is £1.20 (as of April 2026), there are toilets in the car park and coffee shops close by if you want to get there early.
In the morning we will walk to Ray Mill Island, Maidenhead, on paths parallel to The Thames including the Green Way through Cookham. We will have lunch on the island (please bring your own or get something at the cafe (very basic, only toasties generally, and ice cream). After lunch we will walk round the small island before making our way back via the Thames Path.
The walk is flat. Severity grading is 1 out of 5 (1 is relatively easiest, 5 relatively most difficult). There is little shade on the walk so please bring fluids, a hat and sun tan lotion as required. We should be back about 3.30.

We will walk whatever the weather (unless there is a severe weather warning from the Met Office) so please dress appropriately, including walking boots or walking trainers. Take a picnic lunch water and refreshments for the walk too. We will meet at 10.15am for a prompt start at 10.30am.
Well behaved dogs are welcome to join the walk with their responsible owners. Dogs must be kept on a lead throughout the walk. The walk has not been checked for suitability for dogs, which means we may encounter things like stiles. You must be able to carry your dog at these challenges as we are unable to divert the walk.
