Sunday Walk: Chester Walls, Dee Ferry & Meadows
Overview
A new and varied walk in and around Chester and the River Dee. The walk starts by Chester castle with a stroll along the historic Chester City walls, started by the Romans, updated in the middle ages and transformed into walkway by the Victorians. We will pass the historic Watergate, Northgate and the King Charles tower, before turning off to the Shropshire Union canal by Chester Cathedral. We follow the canal east out of the city centre, then down a short section of road to the Dee Ferry from Sandy Lane to the Dee meadows. The ferry is £1 per person - please bring cash with you. The walk continues beside river into the meadows with a stop for lunch, then returning along the river back into Chester, crossing the river via a small suspension bridge just in time for a quick stop at Snugburys Ice Cream, then completing the walk along the river back to the car park
Please bring your walking boots and sandwiches as we will be stopping en route for a picnic.
Facilities: Toilets at the car park and by the ferry crossing
