Fly a Spitfire Plane over the White Cliffs at The Needles
Overview
Spice Solent are offering 4 Members the opportunity of a lifetime - you built the Airfix model, now experience how it truly feels to fly in one of these iconic aircrafts. Definitely one for the bucket list and not to be missed.
You will get to fly in a Spitfire TR9's from the tarmac at Solent Airport Daedalus (formerly RNAS Lee-on-Solent) and out along the coast.You will have the chance to take the controls yourself and actually fly the Spitfire - a moment to tell the grandchildren about, and if you elected to try some aerobatics as well you will marvel at the power, maneuverability and grace of this aircraft that is over 70 years.
WHAT YOU GET
Briefings about the aircraft, the safety equipment you'll be wearing such as helmets, flight suits and parachutes, and how to use them all.
You'll watch a video that explains the risks of flying in a Spitfire.
You'll meet your pilot and discuss with him what you'd like to do on your flight such as sightseeing or some aerobatics, or a bit of both.
Your own personalised flight suit name badge to keep.
A Squadron Print depicting the specific Spitfire you flew in.
A 360 degree video of your flight available for purchase after the flight.
PLEASE NOTE
Airborne time will be roughly 10 minutes shorter than the quoted experience time.
You should plan to be with us for 2.5 hours.
Weight and height limits will be strictly adhered to. Please bear this in mind during the booking process.
Friends and family very welcome, Maximum of four people inside but the viewing area next to the hangar has unlimited space.

What are the minimum and maximum height restrictions for passengers in the Spitire?
- There is a height restriction of 6’6" or 198 cm. There is no minimum height.
What is the maximum weight restriction?
- The weight restriction is 17 stone or 108 kg
What general level of health do I need?
- General health should be reasonable enough to take a commercial flight or to have a flight experience in a light aircraft. With regard to physical health, you are required to enter and exit the aircraft unassisted. Please imagine getting in and out of the bath for a fairly accurate comparison.
- A Doctor's note will be required for the following:
- HEART CONDITIONS
- LUNG CONDITIONS
- BRAIN CONDITIONS
- EAR/NOSE/THROAT CONDITIONS
- BACK AND/OR BONE CONDITION
- EPILEPSY
- DIABETES (TYPE I)
- For your safety and the safety of the aircraft they cannot fly people who are:
- LEGALLY BLIND
- DEAF
- PHYSICALLY IMPAIRED
- MENTALLY IMPAIRED
By Car
From the West
Leave the M27 at Junction 9, following the A27 until the Titchfield Gyratory. Then, follow signs to Stubbington, passing through the village and down Stubbington lane until you see the Airport boundary and runway on your left. Take the next left onto Daedalus Drive at the traffic lights, and the Tower Car Park is on the left, via the first exit at the next roundabout.
From the East
Leave the M27 at Junction 11, follow the A27 into Fareham remaining in the middle lane and follow signs for the A32 Gosport/Lee-On-The-Solent at the Quay Street roundabout. Continue on the A32, making sure to use the right lane as you pass the Shell Petrol Station and head over the bridge onto Newgate Lane. Follow Newgate Lane for 2 miles, staying in the middle lane as you approach the Peak Lane roundabout, and head straight across towards Lee. Finally, continue until the traffic lights, where you will see the ‘Solent Airport’ sign, and go right onto Daedalus Drive.
Please note that visitor parking is at the Control Tower.
By Rail
Fareham train station is approx. four miles from the airport. There are frequent rail services from London Victoria and Waterloo, Southampton, Portsmouth, and Brighton to and from Fareham.
By Taxi
There are several local taxi companies that are familiar with the site. Taxis can be booked by the operations team upon request, to meet you upon arrival.
