Spice Solent Visits Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway
Overview
Join Margaret and Spice Solent as we visit Exbury Gardens and the narrow-gauge Steam Railway and enjoy a drink and some cake at one of the cafes.
More than 100 years in the making, Exbury's glorious gardens, designed and curated by the de Rothschild family, have the power to delight and inspire in equal measure.
This spectacular collection of landscaped woodland, herbaceous, contemporary, formal and wildflower gardens provide an ever-changing palette of colour and the 200 acres transform into a shady sanctuary of tranquility during summertime. In particular, the Iris, Herbaceous, Sundial and Centenary Gardens bloom at this time of year with herbaceous perennials and exotic flowers.
The trains travel on an extended 1.5 mile track through the gardens, meandering through the Summer Lane Garden (only accessible by train) before skirting past the Rock Garden, travelling through the tunnel and then stopping off at Exbury North to refuel. The return journey includes a loop around Dragonfly Pond, where passengers can watch out for wildlife, before heading back to Exbury Central.
