Rye Food & Wine Fair shine a spotlight on award-winning distillers, brewers and winemakers of the region and offers the opportunity to discover the incredible range of local produce from land and sea around us.
Friday, we will explore Rye's beautiful old medieval town and will go out in the evening to try
one of the local restaurants
Saturday, it includes a short 22-minute train Journey to experience the Hastings Food, Wine & Music Festival on the beach, the entrance is included in this weekend
Plus the entrance to Barn Dance is also included back in Rye near the Hotel in the Evening
We also have optional tours on Sunday: Why not try take a boat trip along the River or do a 3-4 mile circular walk down to Rye Harbour or visit a local Vineyard, Also Bodium Castle and Great Dixter is nearby for a day out by shared cars if we have enough drivers.
Rye is a picturesque, hilltop medieval town in East Sussex, known for its cobbled streets, timber-framed houses, and rich maritime history as a former Cinque Port. Once a heavily fortified, bustling port on the sea, it is now two miles inland, featuring historic landmarks like the 12th-century St Mary's Church and Ypres Tower.
Key Aspects of Rye:
Location: Situated on a steep hill overlooking the River Rother and Romney Marsh, formerly an island, now inland due to coastal changes.
History & Significance: As a member of the Cinque Ports (affiliated in 1336), Rye provided ships for the Crown in return for tax exemptions. It was frequently attacked and burned by the French in the 14th century, requiring massive rebuilding.
Smuggling History: By the 18th century, Rye was a notorious smuggling hub. The famous Hawkhurst Gang used inns like The Mermaid Inn (rebuilt 1420) for their operations.
Architecture & Landmarks: Known for the steep, cobbled Mermaid Street, the 13th-century Ypres Tower (Rye Castle), and many Tudor and Georgian buildings.
Culture: The town has long been a retreat for artists and writers, including Henry James and E.F. Benson.
Today, Rye is a popular tourist destination known for its preserved, bohemian charm and nearby nature reserve.

River Boat trip with Champagne*,or walk to Rye Harbour 1.5mile each way or visit a local vineyard*
Check Out is 11am but Luggage can be stored if you came by train
6.00pm Heading home until the next time

Travel & Stay
Situated in the historic town of Rye, The River Haven Hotel is on the Strand Quay overlooking the River Tillingham. Rye Rail Station is a leisurely 10-minute walk away.
Rooms at River Haven all have a flat-screen TV, and tea and coffee-making facilities. Some have scenic river views, and some also have a patio suitable for disabled guests. There is free Wi-Fi in all areas. Fully stocked late Bar, Superb Breakfast, Free parking
