Overview
We continue our Capital Ring Walk series with Alan.
Time to add the Capital Ring Walk to your bucket list Alan will be walking the Capital Ring in 15 stages today is the twelfth and thirteenth stages.
The Capital Ring is an urban walk in a smaller and more central loop around London than the London Loop, staying within 10 miles of Big Ben. Opened in 2005, it crosses the Thames at Richmond in the West and Woolwich in the East, and takes in many of the city's open spaces including Crystal Palace Park, Syon Park, Highgate Woods, Finsbury Park and Hackney Marshes.
Divided into 15 easy-to-walk sections, it covers 78 miles (126km) of open space, nature reserves, Sites of Specific Scientific Interest and more.
Capital Ring Walk (section 12 & 13) 9 Mile Highgate to Stoke Newington & Stoke Newington to Hackney Wick
Sections 12 and 13 are relatively flat and easy. Section 12 is 5.4 miles and runs for 2 miles along a disused railway and New River and through Finsbury Park, Clissold Park and Abney Park Cemetery. Section 13 is 3.7 miles mostly along the Lee Navigation. There are plenty of places to leave the walk if not doing it all on the day.
We will meet at Highgate Station (Northern Line) to be away for 11. Immediately into the walk we will stop at Jacksons Lane Theatre Cafe for a hot drink and to use the loos. We will then proceed to our lunch spot, West Reservoir Cafe (about 1.15, menu spuds, burgers, bacon and eggs, etc) that has fine views from the terrace across the reservoir.
After lunch we will proceed to the end of section 12 at Stoke Newington (Weaver Line) and then continue onto section 13 to Hackney Wick (Mildmay Line).
