Liverpool Day Out with Western Approaches WW2 Bunker Museum
Overview
Join us as we head off to Liverpool to visit Liverpool war museum.
Take a look at their website by following this link Liverpool War Musuem
This immense top secret underground WW2 bunker is where the Battle of the Atlantic was mapped out and planned. Discover the stories locked in the bunker that protected the tactics of the British Armed Forces plotting to bulwark the Western Approaches and aid the Allied victory. 300 staff worked here in wartime. The Operations Room remains exactly how it was left when the doors were closed on 15 August 1945. You were once required to sign The Official Secrets Act to enter the building!
- 11am we depart from outside Costa Coffee in Lime Street Station. It is about 15-20 minutes level walk to the Museum with no stops en-route. Or you can get a taxi from the station and meet us outside the museum
- 11.30am after buying your ticket (unless you have booked it in advance), join your host at the reception desk inside to show the tickets to gain entry. There is a short film at the start, then wander round the many rooms over 3 levels. Either at your own pace or with the group. There are toilets downstairs however please note there isn't a cafe and there very few places to sit.
- Meet back in reception at 12.30pm if you want to join us for lunch at the Bluebell Gallery Cafe which is about 15 minutes of level walking, with no stops en-route. Optional lunch about 1pm, The Bluecoat Gallery and Cafe, School Lane, L1 3X. The Bluecoat is an interesting building in itself, with a small (free) gallery, so you may want to have a quick look round.
- Meet up in the entrance at 2.30pm to either walk back to Lime Street station (about 10 minutes), to go for a wander round the shops at Liverpool One or to walk to the (free) World Museum near the station or we can meet up in Wetherspoons in the station around 4.30pm for a cuppa/drink or food. It has a large screen showing the live train times.
