Hope Valley Real Ale Trail by Rail
Overview
Join us for a fantastic opportunity to enjoy some of the local drinking establishments of the Peak District as well as taking in the breath-taking scenery of the countryside. Whilst all the bars will have a host of real ales they also offer a variety of refreshments to cater for all taste buds. This is not just a real ale trail but a unique event offering a chance to capture the wonderful Hope Valley as we stop at each station and have a leisurely stroll to each port of call. We have also managed to include a meal at the award-winning restaurant providing us with the best of home cooked food produced from locally sourced ingredients.
You may wish to meet at the Piccadilly Tap from 12noon - please note this part of the event is not hosted, Tanya your host will board the train at Marple.
Meet up 12noon – 12:30pm Piccadilly Tap, Station Approach, Manchester
Train: Departs at 1248 hours Manchester Piccadilly arrive New Mills 1315 hours
Tor Vale Tap, New Mills, we may also pop into the Pride of the Peaks, New Mills
Train departs New Mills 15.15 hours, arrives Hope 15.38 hours
Old Hall Hotel, Hope (meal booked for 4.15pm)
Train: Departs Hope 18.39 hours, arrive Marple 19.06 hours
The Norfolk Arms, Marple Bridge
You can leave whenever you want to! The return ticket to Manchester is flexible from Marple, eg 20:07 hours, 20:40 hours
Please also note:
- This is a dog friendly event & Tanya may be bringing her lovely border collie Ozzy
- From the train stations to the public houses it is between 5-15 minutes walk.
- Whilst Tanya is the volunteer co-ordinator for this event, it is the individual’s responsibility to ensure that they board and get off the trains at the relevant stations as it may not be possible to keep everyone together on board the train.

- Beer Battered Fish (Catch of the day) with beef dripping chips, mushy peas, homemade tartar sauce & a lemon wedge (GF)
- Grilled 10oz Pork Chop with local black pudding, mashed potatoes, curly kale & rich wholegrain mustard sauce
- Butchers Sausage of the Week locally sourced trio of sausages, creamed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and caramalised onion gravy
- Rich Braised Pulled Beef Short Rib Ragu overnight braised pulled beef short rib in a rich red wine and San Marzano tomato sauce finished with cream and grana padano, stirred through chunky rigatoni pasta
- Big Cal's Curry of the Week with turmeric rice & fresh chilli's (GF) (add a naan bread on the day for an additonal £2.50 - not GF)
- Old Hall Hotel’s famous Steak & Old Peculiar Ale Pie with seasonal vegetables and gravy (add beef dripping chips on the day for an additional £2.50)
- Quinoa & Five Bean Fiery Chilli fiery five bean & quinoa chilli with a chunk of toasted ciabatta (VG)
